Want to know what makes auto insurance in Oklahoma expensive?

There are a lot of factors that go into the rising cost of car insurance in Oklahoma. One that was just passed our legislature in Senate Bill 1556 is to increase the cost for an MVR (Motor Vehicle Report) from $10.00 to $25.00.

This means that every time anyone needs to view your driving history to determine your insurance rate the cost has now more than doubled.

Every insurance company must receive an MVR for all potential new clients and periodically upon review of existing customers to confirm driving history and the cost will inevitably mean additional costs to the consumers.

This decision makes Oklahoma the most expensive state in the nation.

To quote Dan Ramsey, CEO/President of Independent Insurance Agents of Oklahoma;

“While it is understandable that dramatic steps needed to be taken to come to a balanced budget agreement, raising the cost of auto insurance at a time when 25% of Oklahomans are driving on our streets and highways without insurance does not seem to be a wise way to do it.”

This change goes into effect July 1, 2010.
